Privacy policy

Lychee Press LLC ("Lychee Press," "we," "us," or "our"), formerly Mina Learns Chinese, publishes children's books and runs the website www.lycheepress.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

It applies to the Site, our emails and texts, our forms (contact, coaching inquiry, printing quote, wholesale), coaching sessions, and any other time you interact with us directly. It does not cover purchases you make from Lychee Press through other retailers such as Amazon, Faire, or Bookshop.org; those are governed by the retailer's privacy policy.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Orders and account. Name, email, shipping and billing address, phone number, and order details. Payment card details go directly to our payment processors (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay). We never see or store your full card number.
  • Personalization and gifts. Names, dedications, and gift messages you enter, which may include a child's first name. We use them only to produce and pack your order.
  • Forms and inquiries. What you submit through our contact, coaching inquiry, printing quote, school, and wholesale forms, including your name, email, phone, business or school name, and project details.
  • Coaching. Scheduling details, notes from our sessions, and any manuscripts, illustrations, or business information you share with us.
  • Reviews and photos. Reviews, ratings, photos, and social posts you submit or tag us in, along with the name you choose to display.
  • Marketing sign-ups. Your email address, and phone number if you opt in to texts.
  • Customer service. The content of emails, chat messages, and other correspondence with us.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our service providers collect device and usage data through cookies, pixels, and similar tools: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, links clicked, items viewed or added to cart, and approximate location based on IP address. See Section 4 for details and choices.

Information from other sources

We may receive information from payment processors (to confirm payment and prevent fraud), shipping carriers (delivery status), social media platforms (if you interact with us there), our affiliate program partners (referral source), and Shopify (if you use a Shop account or Shop Pay).

2. How we use your information

  • Process and ship orders, deliver digital items, and provide coaching services.
  • Send order confirmations, shipping updates, receipts, and other service messages.
  • Answer your questions and provide customer support.
  • Send marketing emails and texts if you have opted in (see Section 5).
  • Display reviews and customer photos on the Site and in our marketing, with your permission as described in our Terms of Service.
  • Pass printing quote requests to the printer we work with (see Section 6).
  • Run our affiliate and referral programs.
  • Understand how the Site is used, fix problems, and improve our products, pages, and content.
  • Measure and improve our advertising.
  • Detect fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and comply with legal obligations.

3. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as described here:

  • Service providers who help us run the business, under contracts that limit how they can use it: Shopify (store hosting, checkout, accounts, Shopify Inbox chat), payment processors, shipping carriers and label services, Klaviyo (email, SMS, and reviews), Google Analytics, Cal.com (coaching scheduling), Google Workspace (email and documents), and our accountant and other professional advisors.
  • Advertising partners. We use the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) pixel and Google tags, which share identifiers and browsing activity on the Site with those companies to measure ads and show you relevant ads elsewhere. Under California law this may count as "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising. You can opt out as described in Section 4 and Section 8.
  • The printer we work with, if you request a printing quote (Section 6).
  • Legal reasons. To comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect our rights or safety, or investigate fraud.
  • Business transfers. If Lychee Press is sold, merged, or reorganized, your information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.

We do not share customer lists with other companies for their own marketing.

4. Cookies and tracking

We use these types of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Essential. Needed for the cart, checkout, login, and security. Set by Shopify. These cannot be turned off.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics and Shopify analytics tell us how visitors use the Site.
  • Marketing. Meta pixel, Google Ads tags, and Klaviyo tracking measure our ads and email campaigns and let us show you relevant ads on other platforms.
  • Functional. Reviews (Klaviyo Reviews and Loox), chat (Shopify Inbox), and affiliate referral tracking.

Your choices. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, though the cart and checkout may stop working if you block essential cookies. To opt out of ad tracking: Google offers a browser add-on and ad settings; Meta offers ad preferences in your Facebook and Instagram account settings; and the Digital Advertising Alliance and Network Advertising Initiative run industry opt-out pages. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals from your browser as an opt-out of sharing for targeted advertising. We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, because there is no accepted standard for them.

5. Marketing emails and texts

If you subscribe, buy from us, or agree to join our list when submitting a form, we will send you marketing emails about new books, sales, events, and resources. If you give us your mobile number and opt in, we may send marketing texts. Message frequency varies and message and data rates may apply.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email, by replying STOP to any text, or by emailing info@lycheepress.com. We will still send messages needed to complete your order or provide a service you asked for.

6. Printing quote requests

When you request a children's book printing quote, we send your project details and contact information to the offset printer we work with so they can prepare a quote. The printer uses your information under its own privacy practices to provide the quote and, if you go ahead, to fulfill your print order. Submitting a quote request also adds you to our email list; you can unsubscribe at any time.

7. Children's privacy

Our books are for children, but the Site is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not direct marketing to children. A child's first name entered for a personalized book or gift message is provided by the adult placing the order and is used only to fulfill that order. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email info@lycheepress.com and we will delete it.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of these rights:

  • Know and access. Ask what personal information we have about you and receive a copy.
  • Correct. Ask us to fix inaccurate information.
  • Delete. Ask us to delete your information, subject to exceptions such as completing an order, keeping tax records, or preventing fraud.
  • Opt out of sharing for targeted advertising. Ask us not to share your information with advertising partners. Enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser also does this.
  • Portability. Receive your information in a usable format.
  • No discrimination. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

California residents. These rights come from the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended. In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of information listed in Section 1 (identifiers, customer records, commercial information, internet activity, and approximate geolocation) for the purposes in Section 2, and shared identifiers and internet activity with advertising partners as described in Section 3. We do not sell personal information and have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing information about consumers under 16. You may authorize an agent to make a request for you. California's "Shine the Light" law also lets you ask whether we disclosed personal information to third parties for their direct marketing; we do not.

Residents of other US states with privacy laws (including Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia) may have similar rights, and if we decline your request you may appeal by replying to our decision.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. We process your information to perform our contract with you (orders, coaching), with your consent (marketing, non-essential cookies), to comply with law, and for our legitimate interests in running and improving our business. You have the rights above plus the right to restrict or object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Your information is stored in the United States, and our service providers use approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for transfers.

How to make a request. Email info@lycheepress.com with the subject "Privacy Request," or use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in our footer. We will confirm your identity by matching the details you give us to our records, and may ask for more information if needed. We respond within 45 days, and will tell you if we need up to 45 more days. Requests are free unless they are excessive or repetitive.

9. Data retention

We keep order and payment records for as long as needed to fulfill your order, handle returns, and meet tax and accounting requirements (generally 7 years). Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe or your profile has been inactive for an extended period. Coaching materials you share are deleted or returned at your request when our work together ends. Analytics data is kept in aggregate form. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

10. Security

Our store runs on Shopify, which is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant, and all pages use HTTPS encryption. We limit access to personal information to people who need it to do their jobs and use strong passwords and two-factor authentication on our accounts. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your information.

11. Third-party links

The Site links to Amazon, Faire, Bookshop.org, social media, and other sites we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own. Please review their policies before sharing information with them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make material changes, we will post a notice on the Site or email customers with an account or subscription before the change takes effect.
